“Would you fight for your country?”
She asked seventy years later,
when the idea of country was all mixed up
in the child who lay sleeping by the table
and the auntie reminisced about the
Germans dangling her on their knees
and feeding her ragout.
And she wondered if they missed
their wives and children,
if this was what they hoped for when
they voted for the Herr
in 1932.

Blimey V, thougt provoking and right on the button! Welcome back and congrats on the 'new' arrival, gorgeous!
So glad to have you back, and with a delightful little girl to make us all smile!
...a very sobering post as it makes me wonder how many lives have been lost and changed due to wars... stupidity... how much further ahead would we be without the battles and killing?
